Certification Standard

I. Area of Production

Production is strictly limited to within the geographic boundaries of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Cultivation outside these boundaries is not permitted under this standard.

II. Natural Cultivation

Durban Poison has always been grown naturally — by hand, in the KZN soil, under the subtropical sun. Our growers use methods passed down through generations. No industrial pesticides or artificial fertilisers are permitted. The unique terpene profile of authentic Durban Poison is a product of this land and these methods — it cannot be replicated elsewhere.

III. Genetic Integrity

Only certified Durban Poison sativa seeds are permitted under this standard. All Durban Poison is grown from pure sativa seeds — but not all pure sativa seeds produce Durban Poison®. The difference is KwaZulu-Natal — the soil, the climate, and the generations of knowledge held by the growers of this region. Californian or Dutch hybrid cultivars may not bear this name.

IV. Co-operative Oversight

All production is overseen by the iNkosi yeSativa Co-operative. All intellectual property and assets are owned collectively by the members and shareholders. The Co-operative exists solely to serve and protect them.

Official Declaration

"Only product grown, harvested, processed and certified within the geographic boundaries of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, under the oversight of the iNkosi yeSativa Co-operative, may bear the name Durban Poison Official."
